What the law says:

The Responsible Person for every business with five or more employees is required to carry out a written fire risk assessment and manage the risks from fire in their premises. They are also required to ensure there are adequate fire policies and procedures in the event of fire and that all staff have been given appropriate training.

What the law is:

Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 – the ‘RRO’

Negotiation with local authorities

Compartmentation surveys
Modern buildings are designed with ‘Passive Fire Resistance’ or ‘Compartmentation’. This consists of fire walls and fire doors intended to prevent the spread of fire from one part of the building to another and to protect exit routes. Older buildings should have been upgraded to achieve similar standards. Over time, normal wear and tear and the installation of services can erode the integrity of these critical fire safety features. Our inspections, to BS8214 and BS476, involve 16 point checks of all fire doors and walls, including the provision of intumescent materials, and result in a detailed, prioritised report.

Pre-occupancy reports
Before signing your lease, handover of a new-build or refurb, be sure the fire safety measures have been properly installed

Accident investigation
Following a fire incident or near miss, establish the circumstances surrounding the event and take steps to avoid it happening again

Primary Authority Scheme
If you operate a number of branches or in several locations, this newly introduced scheme allows for the consistent application of fire regulations regardless of location in the country
