Case StudiesDaedalus is a large, former Naval airfield and training base located on the Gosport Peninsula to the North West of Lee-on-the-Solent and is the location for one of the largest development schemes in the South of England. The potential of the site and the unique opportunity presented by the operational airfield and slipway access was reflected in the award of Enterprise Zone status in 2011. Planning consent for a mixed use scheme delivering over a million sq ft of new and refurbished commercial floorspace and 200 new homes was awarded in March 2012. The scheme will capitalise on the site’s status as the Solent Enterprise Zone and offers the potential to accommodate up to 3,700 jobs with a particular focus on high value Marine and Aviation Sectors.
In 2013 Intrinsic Risk Management submitted as part of a combined tender bid with Campbell Reith as lead for Master Planning and Project Management. Campbell Reith are known for their involvement with numerous large scale projects with complicated master-planning, planning and technical requirements. The combined team included a wide range of consultants all of whom have previously worked on Daedalus Airfield either for HCA or SEEDA. The team includes Carter Jonas, GVA, LDA, MVA, Intrinsic Risk Management, Regional and City Airport Management and Harland Masters QS. All of whom are well respected in their fields.
Campbell Reith will lead the project but will draw on Gerard Wackrow of Intrinsic to provide expertise in, Project Management, Procurement, Health & Safety. This project will also require expertise in Estate Management and Cost Management, which will be led by GVA and Harland Masters respectively. With Carter Jonas completing and advising planning, LDA Design was commissioned to prepare a masterplan for a new urban village to be built on part of the former RAF Burtonwood Airfield in Warrington. This work was carried out on behalf of the Defence Estates following the defence review and the masterplan looked to deliver a balanced and phased development for over 2500 homes and mixed use development while operational uses where gradually withdrawn and relocated elsewhere.
This contract is ongoing into 2015 with the airfield disposal by the HCA in March 2015 to Fareham Borough Council.
